Mere Prior Communication/Operation Certificate: what do you need to know?
To ensure that your solar system is compliant, you need to make sure that your production unit is certified, either through the mere prior communication or an exploitation certificate, depending on your type of installation. This document certifies your ownership, so you can sell your surplus, which can increase your income and reduce costs in the long term.
Do I have to replace the energy meter to sell my surplus?
To sell the surplus solar energy produced at home, you need to replace your energy meter with a bidirectional (or smart) meter. The reason for this is that this type of meter is capable of measuring both the energy you consume from the electricity grid and the energy you return.
How does a solar panel work?
The sun shines on a panel that captures solar radiation. The converter then transforms it into electrical energy, which is injected through a normal socket to be consumed in your home. You can install the photovoltaic solar panel on the roof or elsewhere. Get to know MEO solar panels and find out how you can make your home more sustainable.
What is the aggregation business and who can join?
The aggregation business consists of selling surplus energy production (solar, wind, hydroelectric) to an electricity trader.
Any customer sign up, whether as an individual or a business, provided they arecustomer MEO Energia MEOcustomer .
If you are already selling your surplus energy to another company, you can switch to MEO Energia. However, you should check the terms for terminating your contract. Once your contract has expired, you can complete the
sign-up process.
Can I join with a Small Production Unit (UPP), a micro-production facility, and/or a mini-production facility?
At this time, we only enter into contracts with self-consumption production units (UPAC).
What documents are required to join?
- Operating certificate / Mere prior communication (MCP) / E-mail from DGEG giving provisional authorization to start operating (with valid date -> 3 years from communication of authorization)
- Proof of business registration (current, issued within the last 3 months) or Certificate of Commercial Registration (CRC) for producers with 5x tax identification numbers (both with CAE code 35123)
- Proof of registration of self-billing agreement (with MEO Energia TIN)
- Proof of IBAN (including the account holder's name)
How do I know that my contract is already active and when will I receive the autofatura?
As soon as your contract is active and you are selling surplus energy, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. In addition, you will be invoiced quarterly, as indicated in the contract.
MEO Energia is responsible for issuing the invoice and paying the amount presented. This payment will be made by bank transfer to the IBAN mentioned in the contract, 30 days after the date of issue of the invoice.
It is important to note that if you are aMEO Energia customer for energy consumption, you will receive two invoices, one for energy consumption and one for production (self-billing). It is not possible to deduct the amount of energy produced from your regular MEO Energia bill.
Conditions for participating in the surplus sale?
To sell your surplus production to MEO Energia :
- be a customer
- be aMEO Energia customer
- have an injection power greater than 1kW.
customer MEO Energia is a Producer who has entered into a contract with MEO Energia Comercialização de Energia, S.A. for the supply of electricity to the address identified in this Contract, for the period during which the contract remains fully valid and in force.
customer is a Producer who has entered into an electronic communications contract with MEO – Serviços de Comunicações e Multimédia S.A. an electronic communications contract with M5/M4, M3, and M2 bundles , except for Fixed Telephone Service and prepaid and postpaid mobile tariffs without associated MEO fixed service and Global Connect Pack, at the CPE address CPE in this Contract and during the period in which the same contract remains fully valid and in force.

How can I sell the surplus energy produced by my solar panels?
To sell the surplus energy generated by your panels, make sure you have all the necessary conditions to be an energy producer. You can choose to sign up to the self-consumption surplus sale service with MEO Energia, just contact us to start the process of registering and activating the service.
What are the criteria for becoming an energy producer and selling the self-consumption surplus?
To qualify as an energy producer and sell the self-consumption surplus, it is essential to have a renewable energy production system, such as photovoltaic panels, installed and connected to the electricity grid. In addition, you must have an approved bidirectional meter and obtain the necessary legal permits for energy production. Once you have met these requirements, contact MEO Energia to sign up for the surplus sale service.
How does the process of selling surplus energy work?
The process of selling your self-consumption surplus with MEO Energia is simple and transparent. Once you are registered as an energy producer and have your energy production system up and running, the surplus generated will be injected into the electricity grid. MEO Energia receives information about this surplus and makes payments in accordance with the terms of the production contract. All you have to do is ensure that the system is properly sized to generate enough surplus to sell.
