The Social Tariff for electricity is a form of social support provided by the State to economically vulnerable end consumers, automatically applied by suppliers when the DGEG (Directorate-General for Energy and Geology) verifies that the consumer is eligible for the tariff. It consists of a discount on the low-voltage network access tariff and applies to the contracted power and the price of energy consumption. The social tariff can be applied to a
Fixed Tariff or
Dynamic Tariff.
Conditions for benefiting from the Social Tariff
Consumers with an annual income equal to or less than €6,272.64.
And applicable to recipients of the following social benefits
- Solidarity supplement for the elderly
- Social integration income
- Unemployment benefits
- Family allowance
- Old-age social pension
- Social disability pension under the special disability protection scheme or the
- Social benefit supplement for inclusion
The following conditions must also be met:
- Be the holder of an electricity supply contract for domestic use in a permanent residence
- Low voltage installation, with contracted power less than or equal to 6.9 kVa
How to apply for the social tariff
- Confirm that you meet the
conditions set by law.
- Ask the relevant authorities for proof that you are entitled to the Social Tariff. This proof must indicate the name, NIF (tax identification number) and permanent address of the holder of the energy contract, which must correspond to the address of the place of consumption where you wish to receive the social discount.

How to cancel
Verification of compliance with the conditions for the social tariff is carried out automatically on a monthly basis.
The Social Tariff can be withdrawn within 30 days of its application by sending a declaration to MEO Energia. The declaration must include the beneficiary's NAME, Citizen Card number, tax number (NIF), CPE number of the place of consumption, the ADDRESS of the place of consumption and must be signed by the beneficiary.
